Let's Share Our Eyeballs
Last weekend was a pretty dreamy affair. Me and my gal pals hopped on a plane and headed down to Melbourne for a fun filled adventure, where we ate our way across the city and beyond. I thought it only right to share some snaps of our journey with you as, after all, so many wondrous things happened!
On Thursday evening we stayed at a heavenly little AirBnB in Fitzroy, which meant that come Friday morning a hearty breakfast and some drool-worthy street art was within arms reach. Breakfasting at the Auction Rooms, I feasted on a very pleasing brisket/hash situation and guzzled down 17 coffees. It was a pretty great time, particularly as we got to share the meal with our friend Vonny, who lives in Melbourne, and who we all yearn to see when we're back in Brisbane town. After Breakfast, it was time for a wander. Strolling down various streets and lane ways, we discovered the most lush store called Looseleaf, which was positively filled to the brim with all sorts of green delights. Here I picked up the below little cacti friend as a little gift for the A+ people at Frankie Magazine, which was my next stop after some Boutique shopping and...another 17 coffees.
Skooting over to Port Melbourne, I was totally stoked to be able to meet the staff at Frankie Magazine's HQ. I have been doing a mix of photography and styling work for them over the last few months, so it was grand to be able to put faces to names, have a sticky beak at the latest issue, share in some cups of tea, and then just partake in a good chatter. After this, I was so giddy on Frankie-Fumes that there was really nothing else to do but go straight to Gertrude Street, meet back up with the girlies, and eat some fried chicken from Belle's Hot Chicken. The preceding hours were spent browsing shops along Smith and Gertrude street before walking back to our apartment to drink some wine, and really just kill some time before it would be sensible for us to eat again. Eat again we did, and the night was spent at the Builders Arms where we ate and drank ourselves into a state of merriness. The evening was finished with dessert from Messina Gellati, and a late night impromptu viewing of a Drag Show at a pokey little Cabaret Bar on Brunswick street. I felt like I was in a very ideal dream sequence.
Saturday was also a blur of wonderful. The morning was spent hunting down All Day Donuts (i.e.. The greatest donut shop EVER run by Beci Orpin and her husband) to procure snacks for our epic road trip to Rye. I got the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour, which was very tasty and successful in inducing the sugar coma I had anticipated. This sugar coma was an ideal companion on the preceding 2 hour drive to CUTE TOWN (otherwise known as Rye) because it made us all very delirious, giggly, and generally singsongy throughout the car trip.
A small insight into the group I was travelling with is that they are all very interested in good times and (if you hadn't guessed it already) good food. As such, they had the bright idea, that we would gather fresh ingredients for our dinner from farm gates and local stores throughout Rye. We stopped at a whole variety of these spots to gather our ingredients - my favourite of which was a small Goat Farm in Rosebud where we got to meet all these merry goats. My chosen goat was Sean Penn, who was too busy and important to walk on his legs, but instead scurried across the field on his elbows. He also appeared to have two dangly, white, pom poms hanging from his neck which indicated to me that under different circumstances we might have been the very best of friends. Anywho, after meeting the goats and then purchasing some of their cheese, we trotted off to the beach to watch the sunset and SHIVER INTENSELY together because it was so bloody cold. It was beautiful though, and by the time the sun had scooted off, we knew it was our turn to do the same. Arriving at our Cabin in Rye, we changed into our Pj's, lit a fire, and huddled around a cheese board to laugh the night away. It really was an ideal time.
Sean Penn: The Elbow Strolling Goat
Cutest Farm Gate EVER. Would live in this tiny cubby.
Friends who are freezing cold together, stay together.
Anywho, I could go on, and tell you more about Sean Penn's Poms, but then we are entering novella territory and who really has time for that? In summation, it is very certain that I will be spending the rest of this week dreaming of our splendid times and looking forward to our next adventure. xx
